The house: the hard part is started

The house has been opened up to the studs, so there are no surprises hiding behind old drywall. You can see the framing, the layout and where the work stands.

Part of the framing has been redone and part of the wiring has been run. Already new:

  • Windows
  • Sliding glass door
  • Front door
  • Floor

The floor plan splits into two sides, each with its own bathroom, and one with laundry. Finish it as one roomy home, or as a home with space for family or a guest. The lot is zoned single-family, so ask the city before planning a separate rental unit.

Rather start fresh? The seller is open to removing the house, with a city permit, as part of the sale. Ask for details.

Out back

The Saloon

Two-story wood chicken coop with a rounded false front, tin roof, balcony rail and a covered run
The Saloon and its covered run.

Out back sits a chicken coop built to look like an Old West saloon, false front, balcony rail and all. It cost about $10,000 to build, and it's the first thing visitors walk over to see.

It has a roll-out nest box, so the eggs roll forward to the front and you collect them without going inside. It sits on a concrete pad with a long covered run beside it.

Keep chickens, or turn it into the best-looking potting shed in Flour Bluff.

Room to grow

An acre is enough for a flock, a garden, fruit trees and bigger animals too. The previous owner kept horses here.

Flour Bluff ISD keeps its campuses together on one site at 2505 Waldron Rd, a short trip down this same road. Buyers should confirm school assignment.

Island, bay and the city

Shopping is close. South Padre Island Drive (SPID) is minutes away. Padre Island, the Laguna Madre and NAS Corpus Christi are a short drive.

Grab a rod and walk to the bay. Good fishing is a short stroll away, and the RV hookup means there's room for the boat crowd and visiting family.

Good neighbors

A quiet street with long-time neighbors, including a church next door.

A little history

  1. 1838

Flour Bluff gets its name. Texans found about 100 barrels of flour left near the tip of the bay by Mexican forces and claimed it.

  2. 1940s

The original house is built on Waldron Road.

  3. 1942

Naval Air Station Corpus Christi is training pilots. A young George H. W. Bush trains there.

  4. 1943

The Navy names Waldron Field, at the end of this road, for Lt. Cmdr. John C. Waldron. He led Torpedo Squadron 8 at the Battle of Midway and was killed in action. Waldron Road shares his name.

  5. 1980s

An addition is built onto the house on a concrete slab.

  6. Today

The house is opened up and partly rebuilt, with new windows, doors and floor. Waldron Field is still an active Navy training field.
